Desensitizing Clinic at Grace Ranch

BUILD THE KIND OF CONNECTION THAT KEEPS YOU SAFE

Horses spooking, overreacting, and taking off is one of the leading causes of riding accidents. In this full-day clinic, you’ll work directly with Steady Horse certified clinicians to build the kind of connection that helps your horse choose you — even when their instincts tell them to run.

Learn how to meet your horse where they are, build their trust gradually, and develop a horse who is slower to react and quicker to take their lead from you. The clinic covers desensitizing to flags, bags, tarps, and stationary obstacles. Every horse receives an individual assessment, and you’ll leave with tools and exercises to continue building confidence at home.

Important: This is a hands-on clinic — participants must bring their own horse or rent one ($100). A current Coggins test is required for every horse entering Grace Ranch. No exceptions, no refunds.

WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE

01

Trust-Based Desensitizing

Work hands-on with your horse through common triggers — flags, tarps, bags, and obstacles — guided by expert clinicians who meet your horse exactly where they are.

02

Building Confidence

Learn the step-by-step approach to introducing new and scary things in a way that builds genuine confidence, not just tolerance. A connected horse is a safer horse.

03

Personal Assessment

Each horse and rider receives an individual assessment at the end of the clinic, along with homework and exercises so the learning doesn’t stop at the arena gate.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Horse Requirements

  • Comfortable at the walk and trot
  • May canter without rider being fully comfortable, but horse must canter without bucking
  • No unbroken horses
  • Snaffle bit required

Set Your Expectations

These clinics are not designed to solve every problem in a single day. The goal is to give you the knowledge, skills, and tools to continue building your horse’s confidence and your bond over time. Bring a horse you feel safe and comfortable working with so both of you get the most out of the experience.

FROM THE COMMUNITY

After the desensitizing clinic, my mare who used to spook at everything is a completely different horse. The clinicians took the time to explain the ‘why’ behind each technique, and it just clicked.

I drove down from Nebraska with my horse for a Steady Horse clinic, and it did not disappoint! The clinicians are real, genuine, and knowledgeable. I left with a completely different understanding of how to work with my horse.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes, this is a hands-on clinic — you’ll need a horse to participate as a rider. If you don’t have your own horse, we offer horse rentals for $100. You can also attend as an auditor for $35 and watch without bringing a horse.
An auditor is someone who attends the clinic to watch and learn without riding. Auditors observe all the exercises, demonstrations, and assessments and are welcome to ask questions. No horse is required. Auditor tickets are $35 per person with no maximum on auditor spots.
Your horse should be comfortable at the walk and trot, and able to canter without bucking. No unbroken horses are allowed. Beyond that, all rider experience levels are welcome — our clinicians will meet you and your horse exactly where you are.
That’s exactly what this clinic is designed for. Our clinicians specialize in working with reactive horses and will guide you through a gradual, trust-based approach. As long as your horse meets the basic safety requirements (comfortable at walk/trot, can canter without bucking, and is not unbroken), we can work with them. Just make sure you feel safe and comfortable on your horse so you can both get the most out of the experience.
All sales are final — we do not offer refunds. However, if you can’t make your scheduled date, you can transfer your registration to a different date of the same event. View our full clinic policy for details.
